I recently upgraded my QBPro 2005 to 2008. Using the make a deposit
window, I was able to set method of payment (MC & VISA), as the cc
company often makes deposits which include both VISA and MC
purchases. Using the 2005 version, the deposit window would order the
deposits by date only. The 2008 version now orders the deposits by
date and method of payment, making it difficult to identify which
transactions make up which deposit.
Has anyone run into the same problem, and how can I change the window
to sort the deposits by date only for either VISA or MC purchases?

You should enter your deposits according to your settlement batch totals with VISA &
MC (daily, weekly, etc) to match your merchant statement. Each settlement batch total
should match your bank deposit for each settlement. |

Hi Damir,
The "Make Deposits" screen did not change at all between QB 2005 and
2008 - they function exactly the same in both versions.
It sounds like you process your customer's credit card payments
outside of QB... is this true?
Also, how do you record receipt of the payment from the customer? Do
you use the "Receive Payments" screen? I ask these things because I
can't visualize your problem. If you could describe your process in
greater detail, with the names of the screens you use, this would be
helpful.

I also recently upgraded from 2005 to 2008. The make deposit window is
NOT the same as in 2005. It is now sorted by Payment Method/Date.
Previously it was sorted by Date only. I can see no way to change the
sort order.

I think you are both referring to the "Payments to Deposit" window,
and not the "Make Deposits" window. So I still stand by my comment
that the "Make Deposits" window has not changed.
Unfortunately this new bit of information does not give me any clue on
how to help *you*. Because like you, I cannot see how to change the
sorted order in the "Payments to Deposit" window.
Unless Intuit can tell you how to sort this screen, you'll need to get
the batch information from your processor. Another option is to get
the QB Merchant service. This groups all cc payments together
correctly in the "Payments to Deposit" window, making it very simple
to record bank deposits correctly.

I believe I stated the same thing Jennifer a couple of days ago. The easiest thing to
do
is to settle the batch of VISA & MC transactions and post them as a deposit at the
end
of the business day. Do not worry about whether the date of business matches the
date the deposit date. There is only usually a 2 day lag between the settlement date
and the deposit date anyway. I don't see the problem here. Just enter the totals as
CC
deposits and if you are generating Sales Receipts for CCs just match your copy of
each receipt with the Sales Receipt for each customer and file it.
|
Allow me to add to this by stating that each settlement batch is the backup to your
control for CC deposits recorded in QB. |

Thank you Jennifer, you are correct it is the payments to deposit
window. Sorry for the confusion. I have a open support case with
Intuit, and I'll let you know if they provide me with a solution. One
work around is to identify a new payment method VISA/MASTERCARD in the
sales reciept window rather than simply VISA or MC.

PS, since we have a relatively small family company, we are trying to
avoid having to spend more money on yet another component of QB. |

QB is supposed to be a simple, but well-rounded accounting and bookkeeping program
that fits most small business owners' needs. It is NOT Accpac, Real World, or other
more expensive programs. If you need a certain report, simply transfer it over to MS
Excel and format it to fit your needs. One minor detail that needs to be added is in the
payment method for bills to be added to cash, checks and that is online bill payment
which has really taken off for my clients. They like it. David Bemiss, CMA, EA,
