We have Quicken on a slower laptop (1.30GHz, 250MB RAM). Quicken will
no longer start. It says "Unexpected Error" at start, and the only
user option is to shut the program down by X'ing it out.

Is there a way to copy the user data files using Windows Explorer
without having to use Quicken? We have Quicken backed up only to May
11 on CD. Then we can transfer our data to a faster desktop computer.
Thanks. --Tim923

I found it from another post:

"c:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application
Data\Intuit\Quicken"

I see from your later post that you've found the files you need. May I
suggest you do a couple of things that will help prevent future
problems?

Backing up to CD is a VERY good idea but also try this:

Set Quicken to back up every single time you run it, it will ask and if
you decide not to backup you can easily say no. Next, I'll assume
(yeah, I know!) that your laptop has a USB port so use a flash drive
for backup, it's very fast and gives you complete portability between
computers. If a problem should arise you can just open the latest file
on another computer and you're off and running again.

Be careful. That is not usually where the data files are found. That is
where Quicken puts its temporary files.

My data file is in "My Documents\Quicken Data" There are 5 files in the
Quicken data file set (QDATA.QTX, QDATA.QPH, QDATA.IDX, QDATA.QDF, and
QDATA.QEL. There are also 2 log files. In addition, there is a BACKUP
folder that has the automatic backups that Quicken creates.

You can use Windows search to look for *.QDF. That should find your
active file set, and the automatic backups.
