Quicken 2008 running on Vista. My wife made a few entries and closed
down Quicken. When she opened it later in the day some of the entries
she made earlier were gone as well as all the investment data. Not
sure if it is related but when we did the conversion from 2005 to 2008
the investment data disappeared. Tech help walked us through a fix
that brought it back. Did not take notes so we do not know how to
repeat the process. Could this be another bug in this very buggy
program??

Are your data on the same computer as the program? I'm asking because
Quicken used to warn against using remote file storage over a network.

No, all the files are in the same directory. When we did the
conversion from 2005 to 2008 it also lost the financial data too.
Suspect this is just another bug.

I had no problems whatsoever when I upgraded to Q2008, and have not lost
anything, except once. I don't remember the particulars, but I had a
very recent backup on another machine. Copying that set of files,
renaming them and starting up that set cost me no more than re-entering
one days worth of data.
I think the original data set you worked with might have had data
corruption. Older versions of Quicken were notorious (in my opinion) for
"hiding" corrupted data. That would only appear when you upgraded. In
those days the advice was to use the older version of Quicken to validate
the data set (and if necessary to supervalidate them) before upgrading,
keeping backups of each version just in case. Then uninstalling the old
version as best as you could, and installing the new version, preferably
in a different location so as to force new registry entries.
It may be that you don't want to or cannot go back to the old version for
validation. In that case I would certainly try to validate the data set
you work with now (save a copy as backup before and after).
Also, Quicken might have been improperly closed to generate this
corruption?? Do you have a backup from before this happened?

Help make usenet better. Top Post.
I get so tired of scrolling down to see the current message. When I
see the subject line, all I want to see is the response. If I need all
the detail then I will scroll down.

That is because people do not know how to snip the message they are

Excuse me, but it's a personal preference (as well as a religious war in
USENET groups). See http://www.caliburn.nl/topposting.html where they cite
that most people (including me, btw) prefer bottom posting. (I think one
reads top down, usually, which IMO makes top postings unintelligible since I
need to scroll down to get the thread, then scroll up to read top posts.)

I've always argued that the first response to a posting should set the
style. If it's a bottom post, then continue. If top, continue that
style. What drives me crazy is the ones where people ignore it and top
or bottom post everything. Try following *that* thread.... :-(

Hi Hank! Doesn't matter that much to me whichever way the thread goes....as
I said, it's a religious war (I probably could have just as easily found a
website bestowing the virtues of top posting!). It's just not as clear cut
as 'do it my way'. Whatever floats your boat - I wouldn't preach either way
"makes USENET better' and certainly wouldn't take someone else to task for
going the (more popular) other way.
Enuf on THIS OT subject for me.
