I have neglected my checkbook and done it by hand on paper since Oct
'05. Now I have mended my ways, upgraded to Quicken '07. I would love
to start 'new' as of Jan 1 '07 without having to reconcile each month
since Oct '05! Can it be done and how do I do it? Must I build on
the old ? Can I draw a line in the sand and start with Jan '07? Can I
open a new register and have the bank know to download into the new
account and forget about the old checking account? What is the
easiest and best way to handle this?
Looking forward to some feed back and suggestions, Elisa |

If you have online access to your checking account, and you can get
the history back to 1/1/07, you can do it. But you'll need account
balances too. You simply enter the bank's notion of your account
balance on 1/1/07 as the starting balance of a new Quicken account.
Then either download or enter by hand all the transactions since
then. If you bank will download history in .qfx (webconnect) format
that's the easiest.
If you only have paper statements that far back, you can still do it
but you'll have to enter transactions by hand.
