27 years of record keeping of my Wendys stock, q'ly dividends, splits, and
spin-offs boils down to the following Q08 advisory that blocks me from the
sale of the last fraction share (0.646 shares) by the transfer
company.............
"You should use two transactions: one to remove the shares you hold and one
to create your short position"

I've tried removal, sale, etc, but the above message pops up and prevents
the transaction.
Any thoughts on what might be the problem?

The WEN ledger probably is mucked up (it dates back to Quicken-DOS) and
shows a cost basis of $213 and a loss of $195 for the fractional share.
Current quotes for WEN around $28/share.

So, any thoughts/ideas on how to get rid of the fractional shares on the
ledger, and close out the security?

Thanks in advance.
Cheers,
Jim

I would check the box Sell All Shares in this Account. This would tell
you how many shares Quicken has. Probably a small rounding difference
for the shares.

Did that already, no good. Also did the stuff that Intuit lists in there
knowledgebase http://tinyurl.com/6798r3 ...still no good.

Any ideas?

I have had similar problems, and have been able to resolve them by

adding 0.000001 shares.

Thanks John, but adding (Alt+Z) 0.000001 did no good.

I'm thinking that Q08 doesn't like the range of the following data:
a cost basis of $213 and a loss of $195 for the fractional 0.646 share (cost
basis of $329/sh on $28 stock).

Any other tricks/ideas?

Thanks guys.
Cheers,
Jim

Solution.....Did a ShtSellX on the 0.646 shares, and the share balance
was brought down to 0.00, closure.

Don't understand why a short sell would do this, but the math seems to
work. Anybody have any insights in why this worked, appreciate a reply.

Cheers,
Jim
