|
|
A client with QB 5 installed in Windows XP suddenly began to get an error
whenever trying to print or select a printer. It had previously been
working correctly. The messages references a bad device in win.ini and says
to look for a line in the [Devices] section with 'printer name=' and comment
it out. The error occurs with any of the several installed printers.
This was apparently a well known error under Windows 9x and I have found
various discussions of it. However, on this XP machine there is no device
information in win.ini at all. (XP generally doesn't use win.ini and
remaps device functionality to the registry. ) There are, of course,
various printer and QB references in the registry, but nothing that I can
specifically relate to this error. I haven't found any information on this
problem when running old QB versions under XP.
I'd appreciate any suggestions or ideas about this.
Thanks. |

GTS,
I dont have any answers for you, but you could use our product as a
work-around at least for invoices - http://www.billflo.com. Its an
invoice manager and one if its functions is to create pdf's of
invoices. billFLO would allow you to create pdf's of the invoices and
print them via a pdf reader, hopefully by-passing your printing
problem at least for invoices.
Best of luck

What else happened at or just before this began? I'd suspect another
software installation or an OS update.

Thanks. I had already mentioned a pdf printing option. I was thinking cute
or primo pdf. but your product looks interesting. My client would prefer
not have to use a work around if possible. |

Thanks. That was one of my first questions too. My client couldn't specify
any recent changes and I didn't see any apparent ones poking around. I've
asked him to get me a copy of the win.ini file from another machine where he
also has the QB 5 installed to see if that might shed any light on in it.
(There are no QB references at all in the Win.ini on the problem machine.
That may be normal as XP may remap them to the registry at the initial
installation, but will see...) |
