|
|
Hi - I just tried importing a credit card QIF file (201K), created from from
Quicken 2000, into 2008 Home & Business, and although there is an option to
import QIF files, when I get to the "QIF import" dialogue box, I can select
the QIF file, but under "Quicken account to import into" the only option is
"all accounts", and to the right of that there is a message that QIF import
is not available for various account types.
Am I doing/understanding something wrong? Why have a QIF import option, only
to be told it doesn't work?
Thanks |

There is a QIF import option because it does work ... for
certain account types, as the "message" said (the message also
tells you which accounts you can no longer import QIF files
into).
Starting with Q2005, QIF file imports have been restricted; a
subject disussed probably more than any other Quicken subject.
Create a dummy "cash" (or "liability") account, import the QIF
file to that account, select all the transactions in the dummy
account (as you would select a group of files in Windows
Explorer), and use "Edit > Transaction > Move Transaction" or
"Edit > Transaction > Cut/Paste Transaction" to put the
transactions into the desired credit card account.

Thanks John - I had googled all around this issue and got lost. I just tried |
your process with a QIF file from one of the accounts in my old file. It
sort of worked, but the dates are all to pot, and the data itself isn't
accurate.
I think I'll just start over and archive the old stuff. My next problem
though is that my new computer is based on 64 bit Vista, and although
everything else seems to work, I can't print anything or even get into
printer options. Been Googling on that as well, with no real answers yet.
Thanks for the reply though. |

When you say you can't print anything do you mean in Quicken or you
can't print at all?
If it's the latter, can you open the printers folder?

The process I suggested will not have any affect on transaction
dates. If you are seeing a problem with transaction dates it
means that the pc where you are importing has a different System
Date Format than the pc from which you exported.
You can correct the problem by modifying the System Date Format
on the "from" pc and re-exporting ... or getting the free Excel
macro "xl2qif" (Google for it), importing your QIF file into
Excel using that macro, then using the macro to change the date
format while you export to a new QIF file, then import that new
QIF file into Quicken.

If you are having printing problems, and you are moving from
Windows XP to Windows Vista; the most likely cause is printer
driver problems. In some cases, you can use an older driver for
your printer and overcome the problem (check with your printer
manufacturer - HP has already recommeded this for some of their
printers) ... until the printer manufacturer gets their current
printer driver to work correctly with Vista.

The above statement should not be qualified by any specific
"from" operating system.
If Vista is a "different" operating system from the os you had
before, your printing problem is "most likely" to be a printer
driver problem.

Thanks again John - I'll try the date options, but am about to go away for a |
couple of days so there will be a delay.
The printer issue doesn't seem to be to do with drivers - every single other
programme prints fine. In the Quicken Printer setup options I just get a
message "Unable to verify the active printer at system level" - There are
lots of references to Quicken 2008 not printing properly with Vista 64 bit.
But could you give me a link to the HP recommendation that you mention
please. |

Printer driver problems do not always affect all applications;
it depends on what printer capabilities the application attempts
to use (and how it attempts to use those capabilities).
[Does your use of the word "programme" indicate that you are
using a non-US version of Quicken? This could also be a source
of the date format problem.]

You can contact HP at their web site for the most useful
information about solving problems that may have to do with
their printers/printer-drivers. {Generally, I think the
"solution" amounts to reverting to an "earlier", more generic
version of the printer driver.]
Here is a link to a conversation that mentions switching to
alternate HP printer drivers for printing problems in Visa.
http://tinyurl.com/6eyou7
There are many more such conversations (in the Intuit forums ...
and probably in this newsgroup), if you search for them.

That should have read, "... printing problems in Vista".

I think you should also try renaming WPR.DAT.
1.. Right-click the Windows Start button, and select Explore.
2.. Select the Organize menu, and select Folder and Search
Options.
3.. Click the View tab and select Show hidden files and
folders.
4.. Click OK.
5.. Double-click Local Disk (C > ProgramData> Intuit>
Quicken> Config.
6.. Right-click on Wpr.dat, and select Rename.
7.. Open Quicken, and print.
The above instructions can also be found in a larger article on
printing problems in the Quicken knowledge base for Q2008 found
here:
https://quicken.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/quicken.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=4167
[Watch for wrap.]

Weird, the problem seems to relate to your specific printer. I'm
running Vista Ultimate 64 bit, Quicken 2008 Deluxe and two printers,
one is a HP LaserJet 6L with a MICR toner cartridge used for printing
checks only, the other is a Konica Minolta Magicolor 2400W. Both print
perfectly with Quicken although the only printing I do is checks....
(The color laser does not have check stock or MICR toner and shouldn't
ever print from Quicken but it's the default printer and sometimes I
forget to switch so I know it will print from Quicken even if it's only
accidental.)
I'm sure you've tried this already but I have to mention it, go
download the latest drivers, open the printers folder, remove the
printer, then reboot and install the latest drivers, see if that does
anything?
BTW, what printer do you have? Most problems with 64 bit drivers seem
to be with the all-in-one printers.
Look here:
http://www.planetamd64.com
See if anything there can help, you'll have to log in to download or
ask a question in a forum but I *think* you can browse files and forums
w/o doing so...
